Tennis programs for juniors with
a dream and desire
IT IS VERY UNIQUE. It’s not just running around a tennis court and hitting the ball.
Yes, you need to be fast and have the skills to hit the ball correctly to have a chance against your opponent. But it’s constant thinking; how do I outsmart my opponent? How do I attack? How do I defend?
You are looking for weaknesses in their game and other areas. You are searching for solutions.

IT’S A MENTAL GAME, and that’s a huge part of this game.
You have to be strong mentally, and your mind has to be in the right place. Without that, your skills won’t work properly, and your speed won’t be enough.
IT'S VERY DEMANDING PHYSICALLY,
particularly in the singles game.
When talking about singles, tennis is a very individual sport. You can feel isolated on the court for hours, without talking to anyone, even when coaching is accepted more and more.
For those who love this sport, all this is rewarding and extremely satisfying.

“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.”
(H.E. Luccock)
EVERY TENNIS GAME is a SYMPHONY.
No one can whistle a symphony, but a great tennis player can play a special type of symphony.
During the match, you need all kinds of instruments and tools. If you have them and play them well, you play that sweet-sounding (special type of) symphony. It’s the one so pleasing to watch and so satisfying to your heart.
This is the part where the story ends, but to get there, you need to compose the symphony first. It’s a continuous work on and off the court.

TENNIS as a SYMPHONY.
In a tennis match, you will improvise many times. To do it well, to succeed even on the highest level, you start your match not with the first stroke of the ball; you actually begin days before that.
This tennis symphony is composed of many components: a balanced combination of training and rest, nutrition, hydration, mental and emotional health and strength, physical strength, technical skills, speed, agility, endurance, flexibility, balance, and tennis intelligence.
Looking at all these aspects is where I like to start with my students, and together we work towards finding the right balance and emphasis as we move forward.
Paul Maturkanic,
Certified PTR Tennis Coach, USTA Safe Play Approved.
With eight years of coaching experience and a background as a seasoned player, Paul brings passion and expertise to the tennis court.
I specialize in working with juniors. I enjoy giving them strong fundamentals, developing their skills, and igniting their love for the game. I offer a unique perspective and coaching approach. Yes, it’s just a tennis, yet it’s so much more.

I have always been involved in sports since an early age.
I played ice hockey as a young child through my teenage years and took up soccer when I wasn’t on the ice. Later, I became deeply committed to martial arts.
Despite my early interest in tennis, circumstances prevented me from pursuing the sport. My parents did not allow me to switch from hockey to tennis, mainly because there were limited resources to support me in this sport.
While I played tennis with my brother and friends, we never played on real tennis courts. We improvised by playing in places like parking lots, drawing lines on the ground, and playing without a proper net. When there was no one to play with, I spent countless hours, sometimes an hour or two at a time, hitting against the wall. Yes, I enjoyed it for so long!
I took my first tennis lesson when I was 14. Although I did impress my instructor, he told me it's too late to start with tennis at this age, considering my audacious ambitions.

As a young adult, I finally had the chance to play on real tennis courts. Although I didn’t play often, my passion for the game drove me, and I was able to compete against more experienced players.

Today, my enthusiasm for tennis is stronger than ever. This passion was reignited and elevated when my daughter was born. I immersed myself in the sport, studying everything I could, earning professional certification as a tennis coach, and began coaching my daughter on a (real) tennis court before she turned four. Together, we accomplished some remarkable things.

Although my primary focus had been on my daughter’s development, her consistent successes while always playing against older players inspired me to seek additional coaching opportunities. Since then, I have helped other students improve their skills and their game.
Teaching and coaching children and young players have unique dynamics and are extremely rewarding when they show genuine interest.

My methodology and approach are tailored to each player, recognizing that every player and student is a distinct individual. This principle is thoroughly applied in private lessons and, whenever feasible, in semi-private lessons.
It is so important to use this strategy that the maximum number of students in group lessons is limited to four to maintain an adequate level of individualized attention.

Janelle L. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)We are honored to be able to give Paul Maturkanic a recommendation as a tennis coach. We have observed Paul coaching his daughter, Sarah, weekly for over six years and have seen her steadily grow into the highly rated tennis player she is today. Paul has always been a positive role model who has not only taught Sarah excellent techniques in her serve and her stroke, but has also demonstrated sportsmanship, discipline, and a passion for the game. Paul is extremely patient, and has challenged Sarah to set realistic goals that he knows she can reach, and then has encouraged and helped her get there. Paul is a hands on coach who has always been able to demonstrate each stroke, and thus, Sarah has easily been able to grasp each lesson and imitate what he has done. The proof of Paul’s amazing teaching ability can easily be seen in Sarah’s game. Anyone would be blessed to have Paul as a coach.
